East Reef is a wide-ranging project focused around a landmark promenade stretching out to sea from Jaywick, Essex.

The coastline is one of the region’s unique assets; however, it is also part of the region’s biggest threat. With the sea-level rising four millimetres every year, costal flooding is a region-wide issue. The East Reef project will raise awareness of this threat.

Measuring 260 metres in length, 15 metres high and 5 metres wide, the East Reef Landmark Promenade will be a striking coastline feature during the day and at night, when the structure will be illuminated like a series of lanterns glowing out at sea. By day the promenade will have the appearance of a beautiful stitch between the sea and the sky. At its end, the promenade will give unrivalled views and immediate experience of the open sea. Turn round and an uninterrupted panorama of the stunning coastline greets the eyes.

The East Reef Landmark Promenade will also inspire sympathetic development on and around the beach and waterfront including the East Reef Dive Centre – the first premium quality, custom-built dive and aquarium experience in the UK - and a new esplanade featuring cafes and restaurants and watersports facilities. On a coastline that already has a number of popular and well-established attractions, East Reef at Jaywick will be offering something that is truly unique, both in terms of design and facilities.

The East Reef waterfront development has the potential to not only become an amenity and to provide a landmark for local residents but also to become a coastal destination for visitors from the East of England and beyond, bringing a much needed boost to the local economy and supporting the plans for the regeneration and renewal of Jaywick as a whole.
