| Landmark east ideas competition off to a flying start |
|
| 13 Nov 03 |
The landmark east ideas competition has got off to a flying start with nearly 3,500 people downloading the competition brief in the three weeks since it launched.
The competition, driven by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) aims to generate ideas for a major landmark or series of landmarks in the East of England. It is looking for ideas that will bring sustainable economic benefit and put the East of England on the map, not just nationally but internationally too.
Interest has been shown by a wide variety of people and groups ranging from architects and engineers to landscape gardeners and artists. Sessions on the landmark east website at www.landmarkeast.org.uk have far exceeded expectations and nearly 3,500 people have downloaded the competition brief in the period from 21 October to 12 November. This is aside from enquiries going direct to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) who are administering the competition for the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).
Yasmin Shariff, EEDA board member leading the landmark east steering group said:
“This is a strong indication of the level of enthusiasm for a major landmark in the East of England. Obviously we do not yet know how many people will actually pursue their interest by entering the competition but it is an excellent start. With three months still to go before the deadline of 18 February 2004, we feel confident of a wide range of ideas which is fantastic.”
