| Chelmsford next stop for landmark east touring exhibition |

The landmark east touring exhibition, showcasing all the entries in the landmark east internationsl ideas competition, will be at Shire Hall in Chelmsford from 15-17 October 2004.
The landmark east international ideas competition was instigated by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) to stimulate creative and visionary ideas for a landmark to help create a stronger identity for the region. It attracted 234 entries from all over the world. 12 entries were shortlisted and four ‘winners’ were announced at the end of March. They range from steel sculptures recreating the lost city of Dunwich (Suffolk coast) to a movable bridge as a focus for events and festivals. The winning teams have been awarded money to fund feasibility studies which will be commissioned during September/October 2004.
The exhibition, which has so far visited Norwich and Cambridge, will be open daily from 10am-4pm. It aims to raise awareness of the huge range of ideas generated by the landmark east ideas competition and encourge people to provide feedback on the entries via feedback forms at the venue or at www.landmarkeast.org.uk
One of the winning projects - Watermarking - is an exciting proposal for a moveable bridge which would be a focus for riverside events and festivals. Its arrival would be an event in itself. Potential sites would be explored as part of a feasibility study include Chelmsford and Colchester. For more information go to: www.landmarkeast.org.uk
Richard Ellis, chairman of EEDA, who will open the event on 7 September said:
“The landmark east ideas competition stimulated a huge variety of ideas. By staging a touring exhibition, we hope to raise awareness of the ideas and encourage members of the public to visit the exhibition and let us know their views, both of winning ideas and all the other projects."

3. The winners were:
• Dunwich: steel sculptures recreating the lost city of Dunwich
• East Reef: artificial reef providing tropical diving site and coastal sea defence, plus new town and links with the Broads
• Landscape east/bridge of reeds: iconic bridge over the A14 near Cambridge providing access to 6000 hectares of fenland
• Watermarking: movable bridge that could be a focus for riverside events/festivals throughout the region
