| Landmark east exhibition comes to Norwich |

The landmark east touring exhibition, showcasing all the entries in the landmark east internationsl ideas competition, kicks off its tour of the region at The Forum in Norwich from Thursday 9 - Sunday 12 September.
The landmark east international ideas competition was instigated by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) to stimulate creative and visionary ideas for a landmark to help create a stronger identity for the region. It attracted 234 entries from all over the world. 12 entries were shortlisted and four ‘winners’ were announced at the end of March. They range from steel sculptures recreating the lost city of Dunwich (Suffolk coast) to a movable bridge as a focus for events and festivals. The winning teams have been awarded money to fund feasibility studies which will be commissioned during September/October 2004.
The exhibition will be open to the public and will encourage people to provide feedback on the entries via feedback forms at the venue or at www.landmarkeast.org.uk
Opening times are:
Thursday 9 September - Saturday 11 September 10am-4pm
Sunday 12 September - 10am - 5pm
After Norwich the exhibition will visit the following venues:
16 - 19 September The Guildhall, Cambridge
15 - 17 October Shire Hall, Chelmsford
Richard Ellis, chairman of EEDA, who will open the event on 9 September said:
“The landmark east ideas competition stimulated a huge variety of ideas and hard work.We would really like to encourage more of the teams and individuals to realise their vision - regardless of whether they were shortlisted or winners - and harness the wealth of creativity stimulated by the ideas competition. By staging a touring exhibition we hope that members will go and see the projects and let us know their views, both of the winning ideas and all the other projects."

1. EEDA is the regional development agency responsible for economic development in the six counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
2. The judging panel for the landmark east international ideas competition was chaired by Anthea Case, former chief executive of the Heritage Lottery Fund and included: Tim Bishop - Head of Regional & Local Programming, BBC (East); Helaine Blumenfeld, Sculptor; Sir David King - Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government, Office of Science and Technology; David Marlow - Chief Executive, EEDA; Bill MacNaught - Head of Cultural Development, Gateshead Council; Alex Lifschutz - Founder, Lifschutz Davidson; Simon Loftus – Chairman, Adnams; Yasmin Shariff - EEDA board member and chair of the landmark east steering group; Anne Marks – member of the public selected by the BBC focus group ; Charlie Nightingale – member of the public selected by the BBC focus group
3. The winners were:
• Dunwich: steel sculptures recreating the lost city of Dunwich
• East Reef: artificial reef providing tropical diving site and coastal sea defence, plus new town and links with the Broads
• Landscape east/bridge of reeds: iconic bridge over the A14 near Cambridge providing access to 6000 hectares of fenland
• Watermarking: movable bridge that could be a focus for riverside events/festivals throughout the region
